Jail cells fill the station that the cops call their own although they spend little time in here, finding that trailing the streets after the elusive graffiti artist and drug dealer. Filled with the heavy armour worn by most and stuffed with the weapons of choice, not far from the beaten and imprisoned this is a dangerous place for any to wander. Crooked officers overrun the place adding to the corrupt city streets.

Mei looked up at the shadow casting his small body in darkness. It was in contrast with the flourescent lights of the hallways of the penitentiary. "We found the culprit who confessed. You're free to go." the officer told Mei. Mei smirked, that murder was all too easy to get away with. But he put on his lost-little-innocent-boy face, and nodded getting up.
The cell door was opened, and Mei was handcuffed as he was lead out of the long rows of jail cells. Soon he was given back all his personal belongings (Mei had managed to ditch his bag with all his spray pain in it at home), and was once again free.
The air outside the jail house smelled free. Even as heavily polluted as it was, it was nothing compared to the smell of the Jail house. Urine mixed with feces, vomit and decomposing organisms. Mei light up a ciggarette and took a long, and much needed drag of it. Life was good now that he was free.
Through his enjoyment of his first ciggarette in a couple months, Mei didn't notice the other human being walking up to him.

A strange thing it was, the lack of people that roamed about the street. It wasn't too normal to see more people climbing up and down paths, some a lot more suspicious than other - but today was a quiet day, it seemed.
Erian appreciated the quiet a lot more than most people appeared to. Unfortunately for her, life was hectic in all the wrong ways. Much to her own delight, the girl had managed to find her way back to Aramaeis' home the night before, and had called Kellan as quickly as possible, simply to reassure him that she was well, completely unharmed and unscathed, and that she would not be returning home until the day after. Too worried about setting foot out in the dark, she thought it would be in her best interests to stay some where that she knew she would be free from harm.
But in spite of the day before, the girl was pleased, and a little more calm. Well-rested from the chaotic chase, she gently paced down the street, her steps light upon the concrete.
She glanced upward, her eyes pointed forward to catch sight of a stranger in her path but a few meters ahead. So used to weaving between others, Erian had already begun moving out of the way of the figure, ready to fall back into her path the moment she had passed him.

Mei had heard some footsteps coming up beside him. He didn't really care to look, all to interested in his ciggarette. But the odd bout of curiosity he was having, made him look to where the footsteps were coming from.
It was a woman, seemingly defenseless. Though Mei knew never to underestimate the deemingly weak, because for all he knew, they could kill you. Mei being one of the prime examples. He brushed away some of the hair from his face and watched her get closer and closer.

For a quick second, Erian's eyes connected with those of the stranger, but she soon put an end to that, and turned them forward once more - the last thing she wanted to do was to make a brand new enemy simply because she had looked at them, again.
The girl remained quiet, even as she motioned to move around the young man. She didn't brush past him, but instead moved completely out of his way. Her movements were one, very fluid and uninterrupted. But they soon halted altogether the moment she passed him.
Even though her mouth was covered, hidden from view beneath the high funneled neck of her jacket, a look of worry was apparent upon her face. Her eyes widened, and if it was possible, she might have grown paler.
It was one of them from the night before. One of the nine, or ten, gang members that had been chasing her through the warehouse district - she had soon lost count, for too concerned with staying alive and well to care about the mere number. Erian quickly composed herself, and without a word, twisted upon her heels, her back facing the gang man before he could so much as catch a glimpse of her face.
Before she knew it, she was face-to-face with yet another stranger, and hastily she turned her head away, letting her eyes roll over to the precinct's doors whilst she prayed for the awkward moment to subside as quickly as possible.

They had made a short moment of eyecontact, Mei looking up at the woman. She seemed to pay no heed to him. Mei was used to that. But she got a look of horror on her face. That was odd, really odd. But as soon as she made eye contact, she turned away.
Mei blinked, extremly confused. "I'm sorry..." he tapped the woman on the shoulder. "Is there something wrong?" he asked.

In but a few seconds, Erian was torn between who to glance at. Tempting fate one last time, she shot a small, unnoticeable glance over her shoulder - but the gang member was still in sight. Soon enough, she turned her head back, only to confront Mei a third time. She seemed unsure, her eyes began to narrow the calmer she attempted to become, and after what seemed like a minute, she finally made eye contact.
"Is..." She began. Her voice was a little muffled by the fleeced collar that wrapped about her mouth, just stopping short of her nose. "Is there anybody with that man?" She queried, tipping her head back a fraction to gesture towards the oblivious stranger, or at least where he had been standing a few seconds before.

Mei watched her in curiosity as the woman looked back and forth between him and a stranger behind her. He was confused as to why she seemed so afraid of the other stranger. He looked up at her again from keeping his eyes on the stranger.
"Uhm..." he blinked, looking into the empty street. No one was there anymore. "No...there's no one there."

Erian's eyes widened a glimmer - this time in surprise - as she quickly twisted around. The youth was correct, no body was in the street, it seemed. A great weight fell off the girl's thin shoulders, and as she faced Mei, her chest rose and fell with a deep sigh of relief, her eyes shut lightly in an almost carefree manner.
But before long, she had re-opened her lidded eyes. "...Thank you." Said Erian. Beneath her collar, she seemed to be smiling, if only a little - her face appeared to move up a tinge, as did her voice, but with the partial cover shielding her face, it was quite difficult to tell.

Mei watched her in mild fascination and curiosity. He took another much needed drag of his cigarette, wondering where the stranger would have gone. Maybe they had seen the girl talking about them, and decided to hide.
But he looked back up at the woman, exhaling a puff of smoke to the side. "Uhm...no problem, I guess." Mei said, taking another wary glance to where the stranger was. "Did you know them...?" he asked. "The person you were talking about, I mean."

At the mere mention of the stranger, Erian's face appeared to drop, to grow more serious underneath its mask. She blinked, trying to think of the correct words to use. It was a complicated situation, to say the least.
"I suppose you could say that..." She answered. "But...it's not what I'd call 'knowing'."

Mei nodded. Growing up in Retter, he knew all too well what that meant. "Thugs, eh?" he sighed, shaking his head. Mei chewed on the peircings on his bottom lip, thinking. "So...what are you doing outside the penetentiary, anyway?" he asked.
"This seems like an odd place for anyone to just be wandering around." Mei stated, taking another drag of his ciggarette, and then throwing it on the ground, and stamping it out. He exhaled away from the woman again, out of politeness. Plus she seemed like the rare non-toxic type of Retter.

Erian nodded mutely, her eyes gradually stolen by the sight of the precinct building. Again she appeared to be formulating her reply in her head. It wasn't too often that she held a conversation with a stranger for this long - it always appeared to escalate to an unnecessary threat, death or otherwise.
"It's more like a shortcut." She tried to explain. "They don't normally come near this place - it'd be like walking up to the police and turning themselves in." She made a little eye contact with Mei. "It's a little safer."

Mei nodded, taking a glance back at the penetentiary. "I see..." he said, and stepped around her. He wanted to be as far away from that horrid place as possible. "Well...as safe as it is, I don't want to be here at all." he pointed out.
"Neither should you." Mei commented, before making his way down the street.

As she watched the man disappear out the corner of her eye, Erian couldn't help but wonder what he had meant with his final comment. She turned her head to observe silently as he pulled away from the precinct, but she soon grew bored of the sight, and after quickly blinking, resisting the urge to slip her hands into her pockets, maybe to pull out her phone to check for any new messages - particularly from Kellan - she resumed her trek.
