Full Name: Kellan Braeburn
Age: 19
Skills: Much like his mother, Kellan is blessed with a talent for language. He enjoys writing to a great extent, and continues to hone his skills and maintain his passion for literature. A far more practical gift of Kellan’s is his speed, which gives him the ability to quickly flee from potential attackers with much more ease than others. He is also a master-in-the-making in the fighting style known as Capoeira, which originates from Brazil, and is quite adept in First Aid – another skill which could save the lives of himself and others.
Appearance: Kellan does not have the appearance of the stereotypical South Side dweller. His hair which frames his smooth face is dark brown, and reaches down his neck - occasionally tied back in a loose and petite ponytail, and his fringe is parted in such a way that it reaches across his eyes, which are a mixture of both green and brown, slantways. His body is toned, his skin quite pale, and his eyebrows quite thin – but perhaps his most distinguishing feature, one that is not seen by many, is the tattoo that covers his entire back – a tribute to the two most important people in his life (more information on this in the “History” section).
Personality: Such is the nature of the South Side of the fence, Kellan has adopted the wise and untrusting nature that could make the difference between life and death. But beneath the seemingly cold and apathetic façade that he dons whilst facing the grey and lifeless world, lies a warm and friendly soul who shows great concern for those whom he loves – a jewel framed in hardened steel, who only wishes for better luck to befall those who are trapped on the “wrong side” of the fence.
Likes: His love for books is a great one. Many towers of books fill his home, their covers worn from excessive reading. He also enjoys taking part in the fine art of Capoeira along side his closest and most trusted friend Erian, but sees it more as a method of keeping in good health, rather than a method of self-defense in the harsh city. He also enjoys heavy rainfall whenever it arrives in the city, and is known to stand outside in the pouring rain when given the chance.
Dislikes: Kellen has a passionate hate for the violence that plagues the city which he is forced to call his home. He dislikes the drugs, and the death, and merely wishes for the dull and lifeless shell of the once prosperous city to regain its vigor once more.
History: Born into The Spiral, Kellen was the child of Faie Braeburn, a talented poet, lyricist, and writer. Although his father remains unknown to him, Kellen was still a bright and cheerful child with an amazing role model. But tragedy fell upon him when he was still fresh in the world. Faie was murdered in cold blood when he was but a young boy, and was left alone, taken into the care of a close friend of his late mother’s.
It was when he was still a young child, his mind still embittered by the death of his only blood relation, that he met Erian, a young girl, who appeared to be an orphan dwelling on the street. It did not take long before the two became fast friends, and in the space of a few weeks, they soon became inseparable – it is still said that the two have more in common with the likes of siblings –and even lovers—than they do with friends. They both took up Capoeira, once as a form of self defense, and to this day continue to spur each other on to fight for life in the vicious circle that they were born into.
The pair have remained the closest of friends ever since, and it was Erian who designed Kellan’s tattoo. Although the words which adorn his back were taken from a poem written by his late mother, it was Erian that drew the finishing touch, and with help from Kellan himself, pulled it all together to form the work it became. When the elderly woman who had cared for Kellan since his mother’s death passed away, leaving the house and all of her possessions to him, her adoptive son, he immediately invited Erian to live with him, fearing her safety in the city more than anything.
Currently, they remain in The Spiral, in the same home, living as a pair of creative youths who were forced to mature too quickly in a world where they were never meant to belong.
